Hi, I am on a mission to become a "late adopter" of social media.  Being a baby boomer, I thought it would be useful to share some of my discoveries, frustration and excitement in my social media adventure.

I am currently a facebooker, although a shy one, at that!  I read and spy on people more than I contribute, but that is going to change over the next few months.  I am getting hooked on it and love hearing about friends and family on a daily basis, but I do wonder if all this facebooking is steering us away from having the old fashioned conversation?  My husband broke his wrist playing soccer a few weeks ago, a year ago I would have had to phone several people and everyone else would have had to find our via the grape vine.  I put it on facebook and the sympathy and well wishes have rolled in - how great is that.

I also think that it is a very useful tool, when travellers go away, you feel so close as they post their photos and whereabouts - information that you would not normally get in detail until they returned.

BUT, do we put information on facebook that we would or should tell people in person?  How much information can people learn about you from facebook? Not sure - the jury is still out!

Congratulations Sharon.
I'm also a late bloomer with social media and the more I learn about it the more I like it.

There a lots of pitfalls and I've jumped into a few of them full of enthusiasm, but what the hell, it's just a learning experience.

Thanks for the invite to follow.
Cheers
David

Hi Shazzy
What a great idea! I only started to engage in social media from March this year. I had never used it personally and still don't - well not quite true. In order to set up our Facebook Fan Page for our business, I had to set up a personal page so that I could administer the fan page. I haven't really connected with it personally but I'm starting to see how you can get really drawn in. I'm not sure if I will progress from 'lurker' to fully participating on a personal level but we'll see. On a business level, we really do feel that social media is incredibly powerful and we've already been able to make contacts through Twitter that we would never have had access to previously. Twitter is more immediate and Facebook feels like a bit more of a struggle. I really like the ease with which you can get in to conversations on Twitter. This is a huge learning curve for us and we are massively excited by the potential. I'll end this by sending you all my love (as we do on the phone) and as I seem to say to everyone these days, don't forget to give OGARIO London a 'like' on facebook and follow us on Twitter!
Love you lots.
Rachx
